2009 Dinner (Friday 25 September 2009)

In response to requests at recent AGMs, Rod Smith has organised a dinner for the Friday night, at the Corner Club, on the corner of the Turl and Ship Street. Those from earlier decades may remember this as the building that once housed the Taj Mahal restaurant. It is now a private club, and Rod, who has used it frequently, praises both its food and service.

It will be a three-course meal with wine, and there are three choices for each course (see below). Cost will be £38 per head, and the suggested dress (for men) is lounge suit. Guests are of course very welcome, as usual.

We are meeting at 7.30pm for 8.00pm; the menu is as follows:

Starters
Chef's homemade soup (veg); or
Smoked Salmon with a Cauliflower and Star Anise Purée; or
Duck Liver Parfait with Madeira Jelly
Main Course
Sea Bass with Lobster Oil; or
Potato Gnocchi fried in butter and sage (veg); or
Chicken stuffed with a Courgette and Shallot Duxelle
Sweet
Black Cherry Crême Brulée; or
White Chocolate Vanilla Bean Parfait; or
Chef's fine selection of British cheese

If you wish to join us at the dinner, please make sure you return the reply slip to let us know!

Friday night accommodation

If you register for the University's Alumni Weekend, your college should be able to offer accommodation. Even if you aren't registering, it still might be worth asking. Otherwise, there are hotels, and the Alumni Weekend website can direct you to several.
